+The **shuruq** is a vav with a dot inside of it <wrap :he>שׁוּרוּק</wrap>.
+While visually identical to a dagesh, this dot actually marks this vav as a [[matres lectionis|matre lectionis]] which is functioning as a [[long vowels|long]] U-Type vowel.  Shuruq makes the "oo" sound as in the word hoot.
